Uma Rama Rao is from Karnataka and settled in Mumbai. Being an electronics engineer, she had a long teaching career in reputed colleges of Mumbai as professor and departmental head. Her engineering doctorate is in the field of Optical Communications. Under Mumbai University she obtained her second doctorate working on two novels of Dr. S. L. Bhyrappa. Her M.Phil thesis is published and doctorate thesis is in the press. CCRT has recently awarded the literature fellowship to her. She has translated several articles from Marathi and English to Kannada. She is a visiting professor at the Kannada department of Mumbai University.
