Sir Roger Penrose is a mathematical physicist, mathematician and philosopher of science. He shared the Nobel Prize for Physics this year for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity”. He is also keenly interested in the connection between fundamental physics and human consciousness.
He holds Fellowships at Oxford, Cambridge and University College, London. He is the proponent of almost 30 pioneering theories, two of the most popularly known being Penrose Stairs and Penrose Tiling – one pattern of which paves the entrance to the Mathematical Institute of Oxford University, where he is based.
He has written numerous books and has won over 15 prestigious awards and medals, including the famed Wolf Prize for Physics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society. He has been knighted, and awarded the exclusive Order of Merit, for his distinguished contribution to science.
