Jayant Kaikini

Jayant Kaikini is a Kannada poet, short-story writer, columnist and playwright, as well as an award-winning lyricist, script and dialogue writer for Kannada. He has designed and hosted 300 episodes of television talk shows on literature , arts, cinema for E tv kannada channel . He won his first Karnataka Sahitya Akademi award at the age of nineteen in 1974, and has since won the award three times, in addition to winning various other awards in India, including the first Kusumagraj Rashtriya Bhasha Sahitya Puraskar. Born in the coastal temple-town Gokarn, Kaikini lived in Mumbai for two decades before moving to Bangalore, where he now lives. His latest book is a collection of essays on cinema. No Presents Please, his volume of selected mumbai stories, is the first book in translation to have won the 2018 DSC Prize for South Asian Literature. This book also won Attagalata Banglore lit fest award . He is recipient of Filmfare best kannada lyricist award 4 times .
