Ashutosh Gowariker is an award-winning writer, film-maker, director of television series, and occasional actor. His film oeuvre includes three landmark films in the history of Hindi cinema – Lagaan, Swades and Jodhaa Akbar. Lagaan was nominated for an Oscar in the Foreign Film category.
Interestingly, in all these three films, Gowariker collaborated with two maestros – lyricist Javed Akhtar and composer A R Rahman – to give us some unforgettable songs. Fittingly, he will be reading out the citation for Javed Akhtar, this year’s Festival Poet Laureate.
