Not everyone who could write a book or novel does so. Some don’t even think of it, others do, but are diffident. What is the creative and mental make-up which causes the putative author to take the plunge? Is there trepidation, exhilaration, grim determination? Doubt or certainty? As a newcomer to this world what are the challenges to take the book to print? Is the first novel always the best?


Private: Deepa Anappara

Deepa Anappara worked as a journalist in Mumbai and Delhi for eleven years. Her reports on the impact of poverty and religious violence on the education of children have won several awards. Her debut novel ‘Djinn Patrol on the Purple Line’ has been shortlisted for the Tata Literature Live! First Book Award, 2020. It was also shortlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature 2020.
