Many regions in the world and in India have a rich culture of language and lore which, for various historical reasons, have eluded mainstream awareness. It is being increasingly realised  that the lack of familiarity with these varied cultures is a loss to us all. Simultaneously, writers from these areas are finding a voice, and bringing their stories to the wider world. While it is wholly absorbing to read in the different styles and rhythms that these works present, it is equally fascinating to realise that under the apparent cultural differences lies a similarity of outlook, emotions and values which reinforces the universality of human nature.
