Every language has its characteristic melodies and rhythms. Of all literary forms, poetry perhaps best embodies these melodies and rhythms while conveying meaning. This session is based on the premise that people can enjoy listening to the poetry of languages they do not know because they can also experience it as pure sound. But to help along those in the audience who might be unfamiliar with Gujarati, the poets will offer brief descriptions of their poems, which represent a range of styles and themes, before each recitation.
