The recent English translation of a 2012 novel by one of Ukraine’s leading writers is longlisted for this year’s International Booker Prize. The novel describes a much more optimistic time, years before Russia invaded Ukraine. The novelist, who has switched to non-fiction and has chronicled the war, talks about life after the invasion.
Andrey Kurkov is an award-winning Ukrainian novelist who writes in Russian and Ukrainian. He is the author of more than 20 novels and 10 books for children.
